The first week of October is a time of great celebration in our household. It’s our wedding anniversary as well as the anniversary of my second heart transplant. Every year, we return to Nashville for my annual heart checkup at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and we get to revisit our favorite places from when we lived in Nashville for a year following the transplant.
We take Gidget McFidget with us on these trips. Last year, we brought Bruce Wayne, but this year we decided to leave him in the care of a trusted friend. Bruce is in the final portion of his heartworm treatment, and the chaos of traveling might be too much stimulation for the little guy. Plus, I knew I was going to have a left heart catheterization during this visit, and that would limit my ability to help Jay with walking the dogs, leaving him to handle both dogs by himself.
Before we left, we took both dogs to the local ice cream parlor for the last day of the season, and they enjoyed a treat together.
Gidget enjoyed being an only dog for a few days, reliving her days of patrolling the streets of Nashville with her daddy while her mama recuperated. As it turns out, I developed a hematoma from the left heart catheterization, and I was out of commission for most of our visit. Gidget and her daddy teamed up once again.
Gidget enjoyed her time as a pampered pooch who stays in a hotel, and she got a bagful of toys from her favorite pet store. Of course, several of those toys were for Bruce, but she ripped open the bag and played with all of them on the drive home. You can see the look of delight on her face.

Bruce was happy to be reunited with us when we got home. After he ran around the house and yard to make sure everything was the way he left it, he enjoyed a nap in his favorite spot.

Hope all is well Dawn!!
