Furry Friday!

It has been brought to my attention that I promised pictures of my dogs at the start of my blog, and I have not made good on that promise.  Therefore, I declare Furry Friday!

I’m going to try and post pictures of my pups, both current and previous, every Friday.

Today, enjoy some pictures of Gidget McFidget and Bruce Wayne.  (They have their own Facebook page.)  Gidget is probably thirteen years old, but she is still quite a spunky girl.  Bruce Wayne was estimated to be six years old when we adopted him last summer, so he’s probably seven years old now.

At Bruce’s vet checkup in June, we received some unwelcome news.  Bruce has heartworms.  Although he tested negative at the time of his adoption, and he has been on prevention ever since we brought him home, those dang worms still got him.  According to the vet, it takes about six months after the initial infection for heartworms to show up on a test.  It’s likely that Bruce was infected but not yet testing positive when he was at the shelter.  Now that I know this, I plan on testing for heartworm every six months instead of once a year.

Bruce is beginning his injections to kill the adult heartworms the first week of August.  We need to keep him from being active for a month after he receives the injections.  Since he is a Jack Russell Terrier mix who loves to have the zoomies, that will not be an easy task.  Send good vibes for the Batman as we try to keep him in the bat cave (his crate) until his treatment is finished.

Now look at these adorable faces!

(Gidget is mostly black with light markings, and Bruce is mostly white with black markings.)
