Welcome and thank you for joining me on this ride.
Let me begin by giving you a little background. I am a two-time heart transplant recipient, having received my first heart transplant in January 2006 at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and my second heart transplant in October 2018 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.
I am currently in the final stages of writing my memoir, “My Life in Dog Years” which encompasses my journey through the world of transplant. Yes, the book has dogs in it. No, the dogs do not die in the book. There are dogs who have accompanied me from the beginning of the journey who are no longer with me, but I do not talk about their passing. I would like to imagine that they are frolicking together somewhere just out of sight.
You might wonder what to expect from this blog. I’m wondering the same thing. We are going to talk about transplants, of course, not only my own but the process and the system. Obviously, we are going to talk about dogs. That is something I do whenever I’m awake. I will occasionally have observations about the art of writing. If I’m true to my nature, I will veer off topic and take us on a wild ride through some new obsession.
You will also get to see pictures of my dogs.
One thing I will always do is tell you that life is full of joy. Even in our darkest moments, there is something good, even if we can’t see it at the time. So, hop in the passenger side, roll the windows down and turn the radio up, and let’s go looking for a little bit of sunshine.
I can’t wait for more!!
