In our last issue of Furry Friday, I told you that Gidget McFidget had pancreatitis. This week I’m pleased to tell you she is feeling much better. After her vet visit, she had Cerenia, an anti-nausea med for several days. She also had a minor ear infection, and her ears look gooey in her pictures because of the ear drops I’ve been giving her,
The vet advised me to feed her several small meals of bland food such as chicken and rice during the day. She seemed ravenously hungry every time I fed her, and I discovered that Cerenia is also an appetite stimulant. The poor girl was having her appetite super charged while being fed smaller meals. She probably felt like I did when I was on high doses of steroids following my transplant.
Gidget has successfully transitioned back to her diet of chikkie slop, and we are following a strict prohibition against giving her people food, except for tiny bits of graham crackers. She loves graham crackers. Bruce is lobbying to receive her share of the people food, but he is also getting fewer handouts to prevent similar tummy troubles with him.
As evidence of how much better she is doing, Gidget ferociously attacked the Chewy box when it arrived this week, shredding cardboard and paper in her quest to reach the prize inside. To her, it’s a giant puppy pinata.
She has rejoined Bruce as part of the security team stationed in the front window, warning delivery drivers and garbage trucks to stay away from her property. Local squirrels have also heard her warning but refuse to listen.
It’s good to see her back to her usual self. I’m glad I listened to my intuition when she seemed to be lethargic over the Christmas holiday week. I could have brushed her lessened activity off as getting older, but it turned out to be a persistent tummy ache keeping her down.

We had quite a cold spell in Michigan. They wore their sweaters and huddled in front of the fireplace to stay warm.
